Current Issue Topic Brief

This presentation was created during my junior year in my Intro to Public Relations class. The goal was to analyze a current issue in the media. I looked at how social media has transformed public relations and athlete branding. Through this project I used Learning Outcome 1, creating messages appropriate to the audience, purpose, and context. I did this by organizing and presenting my information in a clear and engaging way and I used relevant examples to make the content more relatable and impactful to others. I also was able to critically analyze messages which align with Learning Outcome 2. I did this by examining how athletes use social media to shape their public image and how certain posts can influence public perception, brand partnerships, and organizational responses. Lastly, I was able to use Learning Outcome 3, answering communication questions using appropriate research methods. I incorporated scholarly sources and examples into my presentation to evaluate how social media functions as a communication tool in sports PR. The target audience for this presentation was my professor and classmates.

NFL Draft Academic Internship Script

This script was created during my junior year in my NFL Draft Academic Internship Class. The goal was to create a guided campus tour for visitors attending the NFL Draft in Green Bay. We were able to combine storytelling, historical information, and audience engagement strategies to create an informative and memorable experience. This project showcases my use of three different learning outcomes. Learning Outcome 1 is the ability to create messages appropriate to the audience, purpose and context. I did this by engaging and informing the audience about St. Norbert College and its ties with the Green Bay Packers. I also used Learning Outcome 2, being able to critically analyze messages by choosing the stories, tone, and context we wanted to include in our tours. Lastly, through Learning Outcome 3, I was able to answer communication questions using appropriate research methods. I did this by using historical research to present the information and support my message. The main audience was NFL draft visitors and people who were interested in the history of St. Norbert and the Green Bay Packers.

Internship Site Presentation

This presentation was created the summer before senior year for my Internship Class. The goal was to create a slideshow to showcase and reflect on my internship experience. Through this, I highlighted my responsibilities, accomplishments, and communication skills I used in a real-world professional setting. Through Learning Outcome 1 I was able to create messages appropriate to the audience, purpose, and context. I did this by presenting my internship experience in a clean, professional, and engaging way. Through Learning Outcome 2 I had to critically analyze messages. I did so by analyzing my communication experiences which included interactions with fans and coworkers. Lastly, this presentation shows us real-world applications of communication practices and how the skills I brought in and developed will help me in the future. The target audience of this presentation was my professor and classmates.

Press Release

This press release was done my junior year for my Mass Media Class. The purpose of this assignment was to write a news release from the perspective of an organization that just hired me. I based the release around ESPN to connect my academic experience with my own career goals. Through this project I was able to demonstrate Learning Outcome 1: create messages appropriate to the audience, purpose, and context. The press release is structured in a professional way while also incorporating quotes, and having a formal but also engaging tone of writing that goes with how major sports media organization communicate their announcements. I also applied Learning Outcome 2: critically analyzing messages by understanding how organizations like ESPN use messaging to shape public perception. The target audience for this press release is sports fans, media professionals, as well as my professor.

The Importance of Mental Health Support for College Students

This poster was created my junior year for my Health Communications class. The purpose of this poster was to raise awareness about mental health challenges among college students by focusing on areas where most students tend to struggle. Through this poster, I was able to use Learning Outcome 1, creating messages appropriate for the audience, purpose, and context. I did this by creating a targeted message for college students using a structured poster. Looking at Learning Outcome 2, I was able to critically analyze messages by looking at how environments like Greek life, college athletics, and academic demands contribute to mental health challenges. Lastly, we can also see this poster demonstrated Learning Outcome 3: answering communication questions using appropriate research methods. I used research and statistics to support my claims and inform the audience. The target audience for this poster is college students, particularly those involved in Greek life, athletics, or are struggling/experiencing academic stress.

PR Proposal Presentation

This campaign was created during my junior year in my Intro to PR class. The purpose was to develop a strategic communication plan that raises awareness about the environmental impact of a data center in Port Washington, WI. Through this presentation, Learning Outcome 1: creating messages appropriate to the audience, purpose, and context was used. We created a persuasive, audience-centered campaign plan that addresses an environmental issues and encourages community action. Also, through Learning Outcome 2: critically analyzing messages, we decided to use the Lorax because we thought it could help influence public perception and emotional response to the environmental concerns of this data center. Lastly, we were able to use Learning Outcome 3: answering communication questions using appropriate research methods. We utilized research and real-world data like, land use, water consumption, and energy demands. This helped to support our campaign and arguments and help guide decision-making. The target audience for this campaign is local residents of Port Washington, WI, especially those living near the proposed data center.

Real-World Application Paper

This paper was created during my junior year in my Intro to PR class. The goal was to analyze a real-world public relations situation and evaluate how effectively an organization managed the crisis. Through this paper, I used Learning Outcome 2 to critically analyze The Milwaukee Brewers communication response to Craig Counsell’s departure and identified how messaging influenced fan perception and reaction. Through Learning Outcome 3: answering communication questions using appropriate research methods, I applied the application of communication theories such as Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) and Image Repair Theory to evaluate the organizations effectiveness. The target audience is my professor, classmates, or anyone interested in sports communication or public relations.

TV Pitch Presentation

This presentation was created during my sophomore year in my Mass Media class. The purpose was to design an original reality TV show and develop a full programming and marketing strategy, including episode structure, scheduling, target audience analysis, promotional planning, and much more. Through this presentation, I used Learning Outcome 1: create messages appropriate to the audience, purpose, and context. I did this by creating a strategic media pitch designed for MTV. Through Learning Outcome 2: critically analyze messages, I analyzed how reality TV formats, cultural contrast, and promotional messaging influence audience engagement and perception. Lastly, Learning Outcome 3: answer communication questions using appropriate research methods was used. I researched television scheduling strategies, audience demographics, and network branding to develop an effective programming proposal. The target audience is MTV network executives and media professionals as a hypothetical pitch. It is also the professor and our classmates.
